Tawnya Hoffmann is the owner and lead consultant at Anchor Travel. She has been in the hospitality industry and traveling the world for over 25 years yet she never overlooks the amazing beauty and opportunities that we have right here in the Midwest. Born, raised and still living in East Central Minnesota, she has always been drawn to the mysteries, power and spirit of Lake Superior. She is excited to partner with Captain Will Pennings to bring you safe, memorable and breathtaking excursions in the Apostle Islands. They will build your trip to your specifications, communicate details, answer questions and ensure you have a memorable experience.
Captain Will Pennings has been exploring Lake Superior his entire life. He loves sharing his passion for the Lake and excitement of finding fish with others. His "other job" as a career first responder assures that you are in safe and capable hands. He is as eager as you are to find the fish and create an unforgettable day on the lake. If you are new to Lake Superior fishing, no worries. He is fantastic at showing people the ropes. Likewise, if you are an experienced fisherman he will share the thrill as you reel in the big one!
We are family friendly and welcome everyone from beginners, "I know nothing about fishing," to the expert fisherman.
Your experienced captain will show you the ropes and with luck you will have fish in the box at the end of the day.
We offer half day, full day and full weekend fishing charters for 1 to 4 people in our Hydra-Sports 25' fishing boat.
The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is a treasure chest of 21 islands and mainland coast. Some of which include amazing rock formations, sea caves, historic lighthouses and exquisite natural beauty. Explore the islands on our half and full day trips or venture out to Madeline Island for the day. Select from one of our pre-planned itineraries or contact us for customization.
Planning to camp on one of the islands? With over 50 campsites to choose from throughout the Apostle Islands maybe you'd like to rough it a couple of nights. We can get you and your gear there and bring you back.
Call us with what you'd like to do and when you can go. We will even help make your campsite reservations!
Planning a special getaway for you and your spouse or a birthday surprise for the guy who loves to fish? Interested in seeing just the lighthouses, only the sea caves or want to "see and do it all"? Are you only in the area for a few hours? He wants to fish, she wants to see things? We can split your day or an entire weekend with part fishing, part sightseeing, customize departure times and more. Being part of a travel agency, we are experienced with the details and will personalize a trip that will meet your wants and needs.

All excursions are weather permitting. We can't fault Mother Nature for doing her job and sometimes that might interfere with our fun. If we need to cancel due to weather we will do our best to reschedule your excursion or offer a full refund. Weather cancellations will be decided by the Captain. If he deems it safe to travel you may be exploring in the rain (we like to say it's just water, you won't melt!). If you cancel your trip we reserve the right to retain a cancellation fee. Your confirmation email will have complete terms and conditions listed based on your booked excursion.
Safety - we know that some are a bit apprehensive about going out on the Big Lake. We will answer any questions you have and will go over life jackets/sizes etc while customizing your trip.
What to bring - Layers! Even in the summer Lake Superior can cycle through drastic temperature changes. Comfortable, nonslip shoes, sunscreen, a hat, your camera or phone for those great photos. We have a cooler on board, bring your choice of snacks and beverages. For full day tours we will discuss lunch options. For fishing adventures don't forget your fishing license (see above in Fishing Rates).
